River Cities Housing and Commercial Development

The City of Rising Sun, in partnership with Rising Sun Municipal Utilities (RSMU), Lighthouse Point Yacht Club (LHPYC), and City of Aurora is advancing critical infrastructure improvements to support new housing opportunities in southeastern Indiana. Funded through READI, the Electrical Substation and Transformer Project is a key component of the  River Cities Housing & Commercial Development initiative, which will deliver 64 new market-rate townhomes (36 townhomes and restaurant along the Ohio River and Laughery Creek—expanding residential options in Rising Sun and Aurora. Transformer engineering is complete and units have been ordered, ensuring upgraded electrical capacity to power housing construction and regional growth aligned with IEDC’s economic development goals. Substation engineering and site coordination are in progress, with transformer delivery anticipated in late Q2 2026 and installation continuing through year-end to align with LHPYC’s construction timeline. By enhancing electrical infrastructure, the project strengthens utility reliability, supports population growth, and promotes long-term housing expansion. This public-private collaboration—leveraging READI funds, local investment, and private development—demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable growth and quality-of-place improvements for Southeast Indiana.
